Clowns are originally comic performers and characterized to be humorous and entertain people. The image of the evil creepy clown has become popular culture. With the use of scary make-up and dark humor, the kiddies favorite birthday party entertainer can turn sinister real quick. Personally I friggin love a creepy clown, the scarier the better. I list my favorites below. Coulrophobia anyone?
One of the most iconic clowns in history and Tim Curry’s performance as Pennywise has scared a number of children and adults alike and left an impact on the perception of clowns for many.
There is something strangely twisted about an all-powerful demon who can change into any horrific form it likes but chooses to imitate a children’s entertainer. Very clever.
IT is worth a watch even if just to say you’ve seen IT, but personally I loved IT and still do. Puns intended.
Captain Spaulding (House of 1000’s corpses, The Devils Rejects)-
Captain Spaulding manages to be both over the top and genuinely quite frightening in the same moment with ease. The vulgar clown and patriarch of the Firefly family. Sid Haig was born to play this role and I don’t think anyone could play the part of Spaulding as well as he does.
Capt Spaulding is a thoroughly disgusting man whose teeth are so bad that at times they’re slightly more frightening than his clown makeup.
The Joker (The Dark Knight)-
The Joker is the famous wicked character from the Batman stories. He may not be scary to some but the most sinister portrayal of him was done by the late Heath Ledger who managed to bring a much more believable evil to the screen.
His appearance is not typical of many clowns, known for his purple three-piece suit and insidious smile, but he shares enough sufficient traits with them and is also known as “The Clown Prince of Crime” that we just had to include him here.
Why so serious?
Pogo the clown has to be one of, if not the scariest clown in history ever. Because he’s real.
John Wayne Gacy dressed up and went under the name Pogo to be able to easily make connections with young men so he could kidnap, rape, torture, and murder them.
Gacy taught himself how to apply clown makeup and made all his own costumes and performed countless times at local children’s parties and hospitals.
John Wayne Gacy aka Pogo epitomizes the concept of the “evil clown”.
Art (All Hallows Eve)-
A face to really mess with coulrophobics heads, Art the clown has a make-up in which nightmares are made from.
In his debut this menacing character is unleashed upon an unsuspecting babysitter who finds an old VHS tape displaying three tales of terror you would not want to find yourself involved in.
A grimacing, freaky faced Art just wants viewers to “come out and play.”
Do not go out. And do not play.
Twisty (American Horror Story)-
Okay not a movie but American Horror Story’s only clown, Twisty.
Dropped on his head a baby, Twisty started out as an actual clown. A real, talented, loving clown who loved performing tricks for children.
Mentally handicapped, Twisty was ruined after a child molesting. Before being tragically killed off in AHS, he was a disgraced clown who uses increasingly twisted methods to regain his position as an entertainer of children.
The prosthetic mask is just as terrifying as the disfigured face beneath.
Pick a death, any death?
Clown costume (Clown)
The description says it all “A loving father finds a clown suit for his son’s birthday party, only to realize that it is not a suit at all”.
Unable to take the clown costume off, the body suit wig and red nose are progressively adhering to Kent’s skin. We Kent begins to show strange behavior and a deep sense of hunger, no little kid is safe.
Well, Kent’s kid wanted a clown, he got a clown!
Doom Head (31)-
Rob Zombie’s 31 has a few clowns to choose from, but my favorite, Doom Head, is the worth entry here.
Every Coulrophobia’s nightmare, 31, follows five carnival workers who are made to play a survival game terrifying game. Murderous maniacs dressed as clowns, are released to hunt them down and kill them.
Badass Doom Head does not mess around. He has an ease and calmness that makes him super creepy and definitely not someone you would want to bump into generally, let alone when his trying to kill you.
He “ain’t no fucking clown”, OK?
